    Intent to Become a Perkins V Eligible Entity Process for First Time Perkins V (Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act) Grant Applicants

  • Arizona Secondary Entities – which includes public school districts, public charter schools and private non-profit charter schools are eligible to apply for the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) Grant. The process for becoming eligible to apply for a Federal "Perkins V" Grant is outlined below:

    The entity must plan to operate at least one “approvable” Career and Technical Education (CTE) program using their own funding sources for a minimum of one year and provide career exploration anytime in grades 5-9.

    1.    By August 1st - Entity must complete the “Intent to Become a Perkins  Eligible Entity” form.
    2.    A program specialist will contact the entity to review the program.
    For the first year of the program the following must be present. The program: 
    • is specified on the current CTE Program List Program. The current CTE Program List can be found at: https://www.azed.gov/cte/programs/.
    • delivers the first course of a coherent sequence of instruction with intention on providing the second course the following year. The minimum coherent sequence of courses for each program can be found at https://www.azed.gov/cte/programs/.
    • teaches all state-designated program standards. State-designated Technical Skills Standards and State designated Professional Skills Standards can be found for each CTE program at http://www.azed.gov/cte/programs/.
    • is inclusive for all populations.
    • is taught by an appropriately certified teacher per CTE certification requirements. CTE program-specific certification requirements can be found at http://www.azed.gov/cte/certification/.
    • has Professional Skills and work-based learning (WBL) embedded. Professional Skills information can be found at https://www.azed.gov/cte/profskills. The WBL guide can be found at https://www.azed.gov/cte/work-based-learning.
    • offers a Career and Technical Education Student Organization (CTSO) appropriate for the CTE secondary programmatic area. Information regarding CTSOs can be found at: https://www.azed.gov/cte/ctso.
  • September - October of Year 1:

    • State CTE Director will invite entity contacts to CTE Administrators meetings
    • CTE Accountability Team will contact entity to assist in submitting coherent sequence and enrollment in the CTE Data Portal for Year 1.
    • CTE Grants Supervisor Team will assign a grant specialist and will contact entity to train them on the Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment process required for Year 2 grants
  • January Year 1:

    • Fiscal Director will determine grants allocations for Year 2 grants.
    • Assigned Grants Specialist will ensure entity attends grant training and will assist in planning and budgeting the grant, as well as submitting the grant in Grants Management.
